When a person is trying to keep track of their weight, either for reasons of health or appearance, a scale is a valuable and even necessary piece of equipment.  This is why it's so frustrating when you can't be sure of the accuracy of your weight scale.  Even more irritating is when you use more than one scale (such as one at the gym, and one at home) and aren't sure which one is accurate, or if either of them are.  There are a few tricks to insure greater accuracy when shopping for a bathroom scale.  They won't necessarily guarantee pinpoint accuracy, but they will help you get closer to keeping accurate track of your real weight.  Many people purchase inaccurate bathroom scales, simply through lack of knowledge regarding the features that they're looking for.  These simple facts will help you to buy the right scale, and know you true weight.

The first thing that people should know is that, as far as bathroom weight scales go, digital is better than analog.  The analog scales that have been tested are far less accurate, on average, than the digital scales.  We aren't just talking about the difference of a pound or two, either.  Some analog scales have been tested as over ten pounds off of an accurate reading, which is quite the difference for someone who is attempting to keep accurate track of their weight and their health.  In order to avoid this, digital scales are the way to go.  They have higher odds of accuracy than analog scales, and that's definitely worth consideration.

Digital vs. analog isn't the only choice that can make a difference in the accuracy of a weight scale, though.  Even the add-ons can make a difference.  While there are fancy scales that claim to measure a person's body fat percentage, or even their body water percentage, the accuracy of these features is highly questionable.  What they deliver is an often inaccurate reading of body fat, body water, and weight, which is more harmful than helpful for people who are trying to keep track of their weight.  When measuring weight, it's a good idea to purchase a bathroom scale that just racks weight in order to insure accuracy.  Expecting more than that from a simple bathroom scale is doomed to be met with frustration.  Weight oneself can be stressful enough without having to worry about accuracy, so buy analog, and buy a weight scale rather than one for every possible component of the human body.

    • I just use the scale at my gym. It's one of those big old-fashioned ones that have the bars at the top with the sliding metal markers.

    • This is one of the reasons that I hate bathroom scales. Whenever I step on one, I wonder if it's accurate or not. It's very confusing.
